Braxton Adamson scored a game-high 30 points on Monday evening, as the Dallas Baptist Patriot Basketball Team picked up a 76-69 victory over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils. The Patriots are now 10-8 overall, and move into fifth place in the Heartland Conference with a 2-3 record.
The two teams were tied after the first 16 minutes of the game, but the Patriots put together a 7-2 run to close out the first half. Adamson knocked down a pair of free throws and a jumper to go along with a layup from Junior
Ishmael Awange in the final three minutes, giving DBU a 31-26 lead at the break.
Adamson came out firing in the second half, knocking down back-to-back three pointers in the Patriots' first three possessions, pushing the lead to nine. On the ensuing possession, Sophomore
Nick Fox gave DBU their first double-digit lead of the night with his jumper, making it a 39-28 advantage for the Patriots.
Texas A&M International managed to cut their deficit to two over the next three minutes, but the Patriots responded with a 15-0 run. Thanks to a stifling defense that forced two turnovers and held the Dustdevils scoreless for over four and a half minutes, the Patriots scored 15 unanswered to take a commanding, 56-39 lead with 10:52 left in the game. During the run, DBU scored on seven out of nine possessions, capped off by a layup and three-pointer by Junior
Jordan McGowen.
The Patriots held their lead for the remainder of the game, thanks to strong free throw shooting down the stretch. Four different Patriot players connected on 12-of-16 shots from the charity stripe, securing the 76-69 win.
Adamson finished six-of-nine from behind the arc and a perfect six-for-six from the free throw line. Junior
Armie Lewis ended with 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while McGowen chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.
The Patriots will take to the road for their next two games as they travel to Goodwell, Oklahoma on Thursday to face Oklahoma Panhandle State, and Wichita, Kansas on Saturday for a rematch against Newman University. Game time on Thursday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
