Patriots Advance to NCCAA National Semi-Finals With Win Over Oakland City

The Dallas Baptist Patriot Basketball Team has advanced to the NCCAA Final Four after a 79-73 win over Oakland City University on Thursday night. The Patriots (18-12) will face Roberts Wesleyan Friday evening with the winner advancing to the NCCAA National Championship Game on Saturday.

For the third game in a row, Sophomore Nick Fox led all DBU scorers with 23 points and was only one rebound shy of what would have been his third double-double of the season. However, Junior Jordan McGowen did manage to pick up his third double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Braxton Adamson rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Patriots as he ended the night with 15 points.

After six lead changes in the first half, DBU held a narrow, 35-33 advantage at the break thanks to a layup from Junior Armie Lewis. Neither team was able to build much of a lead in the opening period with the largest being a six-point margin held by the Patriots on two separate occasions.

As the two teams battled back and forth throughout the first eight minutes of the second half, the Patriots finally took their first double-digit lead of the game at the 11:27 mark. A jumper from Senior Jared Whitmire sparked a 7-0 DBU run, capped off by McGowen's layup that made it 56-46 in favor of the Patriots.

The Patriots' largest lead of the night came with just under seven minutes to play when Fox converted a three-point play to give DBU the 68-53 lead.

Oakland City managed to cut their deficit to just three points with 3:50 remaining, but the Patriot defense only gave up two points in the final three and a half minutes to take the 79-73 win.
