Patriots Split Doubleheader Against Binghamton Bearcats

The Dallas Baptist University Patriot Baseball Team split the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Binghamton at Patriot Field. The Patriots won game one by the score of 6-4 and fell 5-3 in the second game, leaving the Patriots overall record at 12-7 for the season.

In game one, Senior Brandon Williamson picked up the win, improving to 4-1 on the season, pitching six innings, allowing four runs and scattering nine hits. Senior Chris Haney pitched an inning and a third, without allowing a hit, notching his sixth save of the season.

Binghamton struck first, scoring one run in the top of the first inning, but the Patriots responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Austin Elkins doubled to start the inning and Senior Tyler Robbins followed with a single, setting up a RBI groundout by Junior Ryan Behmanesh. Junior Kenny Hatcher added a RBI double to give DBU a 2-1 lead.

DBU added three runs in the fifth inning, after Behmanesh doubled to start the inning and Hatcher followed with a single. Junior Joel Hutter scored Behmanesh on a sacrifice fly and Junior Landon Anderson hit his second homerun of the season, pushing the Patriot lead to 5-1.

The Bearcats added three runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning on four hits, leaving the score 5-4.
DBU added another run in the bottom half of the sixth. Behmanesh singled and later scored on a RBI double by Hatcher, increasing the Patriot lead to 6-4.

Leading the Patriots at the plate in the first game was Hatcher, who was 4-for-4 with two RBI.
In game two, Binghamton scored first again, taking an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, scoring two unearned runs off of DBU starter Sophomore Aaron Gilbreath.

DBU took the lead in the third inning, after Hutter singled and Sophomore Duncan McAlpine walked to set up a two RBI single by Elkins, tying the game. Robbins added a RBI single to score Elkins, giving the Patriots a 3-2 lead.

The Bearcats added one run in the top of the sixth, tying the game at 3-3.

Binghamton took the lead in the top of the ninth inning, scoring two unearned runs. Sophomore Michael Smith was stuck with the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season.

Senior Jason Krizan led DBU at the plate in the second game of the doubleheader, going 3-for-4, and Elkins who went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

The Patriots will resume action on Monday afternoon at 2:00 for the third and final game of the series against Binghamton at Patriot Field.
