The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team completed the four-game sweep of Alcorn State with a 7-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Field. The Patriots move to 37-15 on the season with the win.
Sophomore Stuart Pudenz picked up the win for DBU after pitching four and two thirds innings, allowing only three hits, and striking out five. Senior Chris Haney entered the game in the eighth and retired the final five batters of the game for his 12th save of the season.
The Braves struck first, scoring a pair of runs over the course of the first two innings, but the Patriots quickly responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the second. Junior Landon Anderson led off with a single and later scored on a RBI single up the middle from Sophomore Austin Elkins.
Still trailing by one run in the third, DBU tacked on a pair of runs to recapture a 3-2 lead. Senior Tyler Robbins reached on a leadoff double, and Junior Ryan Behmanesh gave the Patriots two runners on after reaching on a Brave fielding error. Senior Jason Krizan scored the first run of the inning after his RBI single pushed Robbins across the plate. With two men still on, two consecutive walks by the ASU pitcher walked in the second run of the inning.
The Patriots added two more in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Elkins and a RBI single by Haney to give DBU a 5-2 advantage.
Junior Joel Hutter picked up a RBI single in the sixth to increase the lead to 6-2, and after a single run by the Braves in the eighth, McAlpine scored the final run of the game in the bottom half of the inning. His sacrifice fly scored Krizan, leaving DBU with the 7-3 win.
The Patriots will travel to Waco on Tuesday, May 17 for their final road game of the regular season against Baylor University. The first pitch against the Bears is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
