Box Score
The Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball Team picked up their sixth win in a row after defeating Texas Tech University on Tuesday afternoon in Lubbock, 11-1. The victory marks the third win over a Big XII opponent for the Patriots and improves them to 31-13 overall on the season.
Sophomore
Will Lane got the start for the Patriots and pitched four solid innings, allowing only two hits, but it was Sophomore
Stuart Pudenz (2-1) who picked up the win after coming on in the fifth. The Patriots used five different pitchers to limit the Red Raiders to only five hits in the game.
DBU took their first lead of the night after scoring three runs in the top of the second inning. With Juniors
Joel Hutter (walk) and
Kenny Hatcher (double) on base, Sophomore
Duncan McAlpine scored the first runs of the day after belting a three-run shot to right field. McAlpine now has seven homeruns on the season including three in his last four at bats dating back to last Saturday's win over Mississippi Valley State.
After a scoreless third, the Patriots pushed their lead to five runs in the fourth thanks to a pair of Red Raider errors. Hutter led off the inning, reaching on a throwing error by the Texas Tech third baseman. After Hatcher drew a walk, Sophomore
Austin Elkins advanced both runners with his sacrifice bunt, giving the Patriots runners on second and third with only one out. McAlpine reached safely on a fielder's choice, scoring Hatcher to give DBU a 4-0 advantage. Hutter also scored on the play due to a Red Raider throwing error, giving the Patriots a comfortable, 5-0 lead.
Senior
Tyler Robbins tacked on the next Patriot run in the top of the fifth after his RBI double scored Junior
Landon Anderson who had reached on a leadoff single.
The first and only Red Raider run of the day came in the fifth, courtesy of a DBU wild pitch, but the Patriots put the game out of reach in the sixth.
Holding a 6-1 lead, DBU used four hits in the sixth to post five more runs on the board. After both Hatcher and Elkins reached safely, McAlpine drove in his fourth RBI of the game with a double to right field. Anderson pushed the next two runs across the plate with his two-RBI double, giving DBU a 9-1 lead. After Senior
Jason Krizan's RBI single, Robbins scored the final run of the night on a wild pitch, giving DBU the 11-1 win.
The Patriots will face No. 9 Texas A&M University later this week in College Station. The three-game series against the Aggies is scheduled to begin on May 5 with game one starting at 6:35 p.m.
