Patriots Stretch Winning and Shutout Streak to Three

Box Score

DALLAS – The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team claimed its third consecutive victory and shutout with a 2-0 final over Texas A&M International University (2-10, 2-5) on Monday. Since falling in the opener of a six-game home stand, DBU (7-5-1, 4-1) has posted a trio of shutouts and currently holds a season-long winning streak at three matches.

Senior Danielle Presley and sophomore Ashley Cox teamed up for both goals two nights ago against St. Mary's, and were at it again for DBU's first score of the contest. This time it was Cox kicking in her fifth of the season for sole possession of second on the team in goals with five.

Presley contributed the assist to keep her three-game point streak alive and to add with a team-leading 18th point. The Patriot's lone goal of the first half happened in the 17th minute and would have been plenty to secure a victory.

DBU had opportunities, outshooting the Dustdevils 19-3 and placing seven shots on goal. Junior Lea Sedwick notched a game-high five shots with a few just missing the back of the net. Presley was right behind taking four attempts. A quartet of Patriots added two-shot performances including: junior Jake Cox and sophomores Jessica Salas, Cox, and Emilie MacDonald.

Head Coach Michelle Lenard applauded her players commenting, "The team earned another positive result today."

"We had two great goals from Dani and Emilie," the sixth year coach mentioned while referencing key players in the contest.

MacDonald, a native of Cedar Hill, Texas, knocked in DBU's other goal at the 51:52 minute mark for her first career goal. Another personal first occurred on that sequence for freshman Catherine Sharp, who recorded the assist. The San Antonio, Texas native earned her first collegiate point from that score.

"Emilie just recently moved to forward and is showing she can be a threat up there," Coach Lenard added.

Junior Kerry Edwards (7-5-1) worked her sixth shutout of the season while facing three shots in the victory. The keeper's efforts have helped DBU maintain its active scoreless streak at 289 minutes.

Christina Morales (2-9) picked up five saves and allowed two goals through 81:42 minutes of action. Anna Martinez finished the second half, facing one shot in 8:18 minutes.

"We are at the point in the season where every game is a big game, and it is important to get good wins," Lenard stated. "This was a good result for our rank in the conference standings."

Entering Monday's matinee match, the Women's Soccer Team sat in third place of the Heartland Conference. Another victory over TAMIU guarantees the Patriots remaining in that slot another week with both St. Edward's and Lubbock Christian owning the top two spots undefeated at 5-0.

Dallas Baptist will be back on the pitch Saturday for game five of a six-match home stand facing Newman University at 7:30 pm following the Men's Soccer game.
