East Central Hands Patriots First Road Loss of the Season

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team suffered their first road loss of the season, dropping a 76-67 contest at East Central University on Saturday afternoon. DBU (1-2) was led by sophomore, Charles Allen, who poured in a season-high 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, including five shots from beyond the three-point arc. ECU's (1-2) Colby Carr led all scorers with 22 points, while A.J. Moutry also had a big day for the Tigers with a 21 point performance.

DBU fell behind early 11-2, before going on a 12-3 run to tie the game at 14 with 7:56 remaining in the half. ECU would go on to outscore the Patriots 21-11, capped off by a three-point shot at the buzzer by Carr, to take a 35-25 into the locker room.

ECU expanded their lead to as many as 18, six minutes into the second half. The Patriots would not go away quietly though, going on a 14-4 run to cut the ECU lead to single digits. Jonathan Perry's three-point shot with 8:40 remaining pulled DBU to within eight.

The momentum would swing back to ECU over the next two minutes, as the Tigers went back up by 14. The Patriots would put together one more run to get within six points at 66-60, after Allen drained a three with 1:19 left to play. That would be as close as DBU would come, as ECU outscored DBU 10-7 the rest of the way.

"I'm proud of how we battled back after falling behind." DBU Head Basketball Coach, Blake Flickner said. "We needed to come up with a couple of more stops at critical times when the momentum was on our side. We'll get back after it and be ready for Texas A&M Commerce on Wednesday."

DBU finished the game shooting 44.4% from the field, while ECU shot 50.9%. The Patriots were narrowly out-rebounded on the day, as the Tigers pulled down 32 boards, compared to DBU's 31. Each team committed 15 turnovers.

The Patriots are back in action on Wednesday night, when they travel to Texas A&M Commerce. Follow all the action on the Patriot Broadcasting Network starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40 pm and tip-off at 7:00.
