Late Surge Falls Short in Men's Soccer Loss

Box Score

The Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team snapped its winning streak with 2-1 loss against Lubbock Christian on Saturday Afternoon. After coming up victorious in back-to-back matches to close out a 3-3 homestand, DBU (6-9, 4-4) was unable to overcome a late deficit with its first road contest in a month. The Patriots are now 3-6 in one-goal games this season with LCU (10-4-1, 7-1) claiming win number five in a row.

An even first half with DBU being outshot by a pair seven to five set the tempo for the low scoring affair. Billy Forbes, the Chap's team leader in scoring added to his lead with goal in the 31st minute to break a scoreless game. Dallas Baptist trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Ethan Baltier doubled the lead and made it tough for the Patriots to comeback with a goal at the 73:44 mark. Mbongeni Ndlova and Forbes teamed up with the assists.

DBU avoided the shutout at the 87:37 mark when freshman Seth Elliott kicked in his fourth goal of the year. The Frisco, Texas, native continues his recent strong play in the rookie campaign by scoring in three straight matches.

The Patriots attempted 11 of their 16 shots in the second half, outdoing LCU's 14 in the overall contest. Still, the Chaps capitalized on chances and managed to hold off a strong DBU run in the second half. David Balyeat and Riley Alvey had shots hit the post in the 84th and 85th minutes that could have altered the momentum of the game. Alvey fired the final shot of the game following Elliott's goal at the 89:25 minute mark that was saved by LCU Keeper Erik Mozzo.

Sophomore Brian Robertson, senior Rodrigo Barrientos, and Balyeat matched a team-time four shots for DBU, combining for 12 of the team's 16 overall attempts. Alvey followed with two; while sophomore Cameron Gilbert and Elliott also shot in the loss.

Mozzo (10-4-1) snagged the victory allowing one goal while facing 16 shots in the match. He recorded two saves, but they came at critical times to preserve another big win.

Sophomore Chuck Schober (3-7) took another tough loss as he's dropped five contests decided by one goal, and picked up three saves while allowing two goals.

Dallas Baptist sits at .500 in the Heartland Conference with a chance to finish with a winning record on Monday. The Patriots enter in fourth place and conclude the regular season at Texas-Permian Basin for a 12 pm kickoff.
