THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team battled to a hard-earned point in the Lone Star Conference standings Wednesday night, playing St. Mary's to a 1-1 draw at Patriot Soccer Field.
Erik Oliveira provided the equalizer in the 61st minute, helping the Patriots secure their sixth tie of the season.
The Rattlers struck early, taking a 1-0 lead just six minutes and 45 seconds into the match. Sebastian Poblete, the LSC's second-leading scorer, found the back of the net with a running header from just in front of the six-yard box.
DBU gradually gained momentum as the first half progressed and carried that energy into the second half, eventually finding the equalizer in the 61st minute. Following a throw-in from
Mark Burrage, the ball found its way into the box and fell to Oliveira, whose initial attempt was blocked. The Patriot forward stayed with the play, collecting the rebound and firing a second shot past the defense to level the match at 1-1.
With the game hanging in the balance, DBU goalkeeper
Sean Mattivi came up with two crucial saves in the final six minutes to preserve the draw and secure a valuable point for the Patriots.
