The Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team concludes its regular season Monday at Texas-Permian Basin with kickoff slated for 12pm. DBU (6-9, 4-4) has a chance to finish above .500 in Heartland Conference play, and has already posted program bests in wins for both overall and conference categories.
PREVIOUS MATCH – On Saturday, the Patriots fell 3-6 in games decided by one goal with a 2-1 setback at Lubbock Christian University. Despite outshooting LCU 16-14, including an 11 shot second half, Dallas Baptist was unable to find the back of the net very often.
The only goal for DBU came in the 88
th minute by freshman
Seth Elliott. The defender has scored in the last three matches and totaled four goals in his rookie campaign.
Sophomore
Chuck Schober returned to the net and allowed two goals while grabbing three saves. It was the McKinney, Texas, native's fifth loss in a one-goal game. Nine of the goalkeeper's 10 starts have been decided by a goal, with Schober posting a 3-7 record. All of the second year keeper's victories have been 3-2 finals.
FINDING THEIR RHYTHM – Prior to Saturday's loss, the Patriots had scored eight times in its previous two games and added to a program best 29 goals, locking them in a tie for third in the Heartland Conference. DBU entered this weekend ranked fourth in the Conference standings at 4-3. Three teams are ahead of the Patriots in a three-way tie sitting at 6-1.
Leading the Patriots in scoring is sophomore
Brian Robertson with a personal best seven goals, and also holds the team lead in points with 24. Junior
David Balyeat has been a steady contributor this year and follows with five goals and 13 points. Elliott's recent scoring stretch has placed him solely in third with four goals.
11 individual players have found the back of the net for DBU this season. Senior
Rodrigo Barrientos and freshman
Riley Alvey hold three goals this season, with two coming from each on the recent home stand. Wrapping up the multi-goal tally is sophomore duo
Alex Becerra and Gilbert with two.
SCOUTING TEXAS-PERMIAN BASIN – The Falcons (7-9, 3-4) won Saturday's contest versus McMurry 4-2. The victory snaps a two game losing streak. UTPB is 3-3 at home this season.
Leading scorer Nathan Cotterell notched a pair of goals to build his team lead to 13. The key player also posted a team-high 11 shots, seven on goal to help lift his team over the Warhawks.
Last season DBU dropped both games on year going 0-2 against the Falcons. Each contest was decided by a goal with a 1-0 final in Dallas, and 3-2 away from the friendly confines.
During the match at Odessa, Texas, Balyeat knocked in one of the two scores. Schober also pulled in three saves working all 90 minutes of the tight game.
