Winners of their past six, all counting for shutouts, the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team looks to carry the momentum through the final day of the regular season. Since the Patriots fell below .500 about midway through the season at 4-5-1 after being shutout 1-0 in Dallas by Southwestern Oklahoma State, the opposition has not scored in the past six matches.
LAST TIME OUT - DBU (10-5-1, 7-1) moves into sole possession of second place after defeating Lubbock Christian 5-0 on Saturday. The teams had entered locked in a tie, but DBU continued gathering the results that have become a trend on its six-game shutout streak.
Outshooting the Lady Chaps 20-2, it was all Patriots in the victory that received contributions from many individuals. A four-goal half in the second is what put the game away for DBU after scoring once in the 24
th minute for the lone score of the first half.
Notching that first goal of the game was sophomore
Emilie MacDonald who now has tallied scores in her previous four matches. Other players scoring in consecutive matches were juniors
Lea Sedwick and
Courtney Baxter (2). Sedwick added two assists to match a season-high four points in back-to-back contests.
MACDONALD TRANSITIONS WITH RESULTS – Starting the year as a defender, MacDonald was moved to the forward position on offense, and has posted successful results recently. The first goal of her career came in a 2-0 win over Texas A&M International on Oct. 21.
The Cedar Hill, Texas, native's best performance was also a 2-0 final against Rogers State University. MacDonald notched both goals to provide the game-winner and also posted a career-high four points in the shutout.
MacDonald moved to third place with five goals on the year after Saturday's results, and has now knocked at least one goal in four straight matches. That is the longest scoring streak by a player this season.
EDWARDS SHUTTING THE DOOR – Making her 16
th start of the season, goalkeeper
Kerry Edwards worked her ninth shutout of the season after a 5-0 victory on Saturday. Eight of those matches have been wins, the other resulting as a tie, and the last six have been part of the Patriots longest winning stretch this year. She has now worked 33 shutouts in her career.
The McKinney, Texas, native has anchored a defense that hasn't allowed a goal in 559 minutes. The junior got named Heartland Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year for her latest results the previous week. She also earned the honors after week one.
SCOUTING UTPB – The University of Texas-Permian Basin (2-14, 1-6) has lost five straight, with its most recent setback coming Saturday 5-0 versus McMurry. The Falcons have struggled to score, posting only one goal during the tough span.
Kourtnye Chandler and Brooke Saxton are players to watch on the offense combining for six shots with three apiece. Bridget Esquivel has pulled in 98 saves through 1451:40 minutes in the net this year.
The Patriots were 2-0 last season against UTPB posting two shutouts 11-0 and 4-0 at home and on the road, respectively. In the road match, senior
Danielle Presley led the offense with two goals and an assist for a five point night. Sophomore
