HEARTLAND TOURNAMENT – The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team advanced to the Heartland Conference Championship game for the third straight season after knocking off St. Mary's 4-0 on Thursday. The Patriots extended their shutout streak to eight matches, extending a program record that was set this past Monday at seven. DBU also has won a season-high eight in a row, all against Heartland opponents.
LASTEST MATCH – It was another shutout victory that saw the defense limit St. Mary's to only three shots in the full contest. The Patriots push their outstanding stretch of not allowing a goal to 739 minutes.
On the offensive side of the ball, junior
Danielle Presley notched her fourth multi-goal game and extended her team best in scoring to 12 goals. The reigning All-Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Year also claimed the top ranking in the league with her pair of goals.
Sophomore
Ashley Cox regained sole possession of second place with goal number eight on the year, which matches a personal best. Freshman
Rebecca Kernen knocked in her second goal of the campaign and added an assist to notch a career-high three points in her tournament debut. Junior
Lea Sedwick contributed an assist and has now tallied a point in four of her last five contests.
SCOUTING ST.
EDWARD'S – As impressive as Dallas Baptist's recent stretch has been, the Hilltoppers are playing just as well. No.13 SEU (15-0-2) earned the hosting privileges after claiming the top seed with a 9-0 Heartland Conference record.
In the first round versus Newman, St. Edward's took care of business in an 8-0 win. A five point first half was plenty for the defending co-champions to move on to a re-match against Dallas Baptist, who defeated them last season at the same venue 1-0 in the Championship.
Lauren Heller led the charge with two goals and Megan Anderson also added a goal. The duo leads the team with nine goals on the campaign. Rachel Murray and Cailyn Trapani are right behind with seven apiece.
Danielle Licarione and Lorrie Santoy have split the majority of the year in the net, tallying 876:10 and 684:02 minutes, respectively. Licarione has claimed a squad lead 11 wins as goalkeeper with 14 saves. Santoy has prevented seven balls from reaching the back of the net.
The Hilltoppers are on a 13-game winning streak and have finished just as many shutouts. While they aren't on a shutout streak similar to DBU, they hold the edge 13-11, and have also only allowed four goals all season. The highest point total an opponent a team has scored all season is one.
FAMILIAR TERRITORY – Dating back to 2011, both squads have met on the pitch to determine the Heartland Championship. The teams have gone 1-1 in these matches with the road team winning at the host school. The Patriots fell 2-1 in Dallas in 2011, before claiming a 1-0 championship at St. Edward's last year. Presley scored the game-winner in that match.
In those consecutive years, DBU and the Hilltoppers split the regular season contests. This year SEU won the series 2-0 with victories at both venues. The Patriots weren't able to find the scoring column in either match.
Don't expect a high-scoring contest, as neither squad has been able to break double-digits in shot attempts this year facing one another. The game in Austin, Texas was a 1-0 finish with 11 shots taken combined between the teams. The lone goal occurred in the 15
th minute off a header by Julia Harrison for SEU.
