THE RUNDOWN
The No. 1-ranked DBU Women's Soccer team extended their unbeaten streak with a gritty 1-0 victory over St. Edward's on Wednesday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. Freshman defender
Skylar Belanger delivered the decisive goal in the 62nd minute as the Patriots notched their 13th straight win to move to a perfect 13-0 on the season.
The Hilltoppers came out aggressive, testing DBU early with two shots on target in the opening 12 minutes, but goalkeeper
Leslie Miller stood tall, recording two crucial saves to keep the match level. After absorbing the early pressure, the Patriots dominated possession and fired off 12 first-half shots, though the Hilltoppers' defense managed to keep the scoreline even heading into halftime.
Seventeen minutes into the second half, the breakthrough finally came. Belanger found space just outside the 18-yard box on the left side and buried a shot inside the far post, finishing off the assist from
Riley Olsen. From there, DBU's back line clamped down, turning away several late threats from St. Edward's to secure another shutout and remain undefeated.
