Patriots Fall on the Road to UT Arlington

The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team dropped an 81-53 exhibition contest on the road to UT Arlington on Tuesday night.  The Mavericks Brandon Edwards, led the way for UTA (3-6), recording his sixth double-double of the year with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Edwards, who ranks 14th in the nation in rebounding in NCAA Division I Basketball, was a dominant force inside versus the Patriots, who were outrebounded by a 54-32 margin.  "They were tough inside on both ends of the floor and made it difficult on us all night in the paint," DBU Head Coach Blake Flickner said.

The Patriots were led by redshirt freshman, Myles Johnson, who drained four three-pointers and scored a team-high 16 points.  Johnson, who played at nearby Martin High School in Arlington, kept DBU in the mix early, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc in the game's first seven-and-a-half minutes.  Johnson's trey at the 12:52 mark pulled the Patriots to within three at 17-14.

UTA would go on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 26-14 over the next three minutes and would eventually carry a 46-24 lead into the locker room at the half.  After allowing the Mavericks to shoot an alarming 59% from the field in the first half, the Patriots limited UTA to just 34% in the final 20 minutes.  DBU struggled from the field the entire night, shooting just 29% on 17 of 58 shooting.

In the second half, the Patriots controlled the defensive end of the floor in the first five minutes, not allowing a UTA point until the 15:06 mark.  Offensively, the Patriots could muster just four points of their own during that stretch to cut the lead to 49-29.  UTA would go on to outscore DBU 32-24 the rest of the way.

Joining Johnson in double figures for the Patriots was senior, Remy Ndiaye, who went for 12 points on the night.  UTA's Lonnie McClanahan, scored in double-digits with 12, while Reger Dowell, who led the team with 23.6 points per game, was limited to a season low 15.

The Patriots return to action Friday night at the Burg Center, when they host Texas A&M Commerce.  DBU fell to TAMC on the road, 72-67 on November 20th.  Live video and audio of the Patriots game versus TAMC can be found at www.dbupatriots.com/showcase with the pre-game show, starting at 6:40. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
