Men's Soccer Drops Tough Overtime Match

Box Score

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer team snapped a two game scoreless streak off junior David Balyeat's goal in the 53rd minute on Saturday afternoon. However, it was not enough as the Patriots (1-3) drop its third consecutive contest 2-1 at Adams State University (2-0) in overtime.

Both teams were scoreless in the first half and went into halftime 0-0. The Grizzlies jumped on the board first off a J.J. Dennis goal from an assist by Jake Hughes at the 42:23 mark. Balyeat scored his second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Brian Robertson in the 54th minute.

Unable to do anything the rest of the way, the game was sent to overtime. At the 93:56 mark, Aaron Fox scored his team leading third goal for ASU's second win in back-to-back days.

DBU held the advantage on shots 15-11. Robertson and Balyeat led the Patriots in shots with four and three, respectively. Senior Rodrigo Barrientos and freshman Riley Alvey added two a piece.

Despite a tough loss, head coach Chris Crawford found several positives in this game. "The guys dominated the play today and we played some of our best soccer," Crawford commented. "We have to capitalize on the opportunities we are given. This was a tough game for us to come up short."

The second year coach added, "I am proud of their hustle, the teamwork, and the way the guys carried themselves."

Sophomore Chuck Schober (1-3) kept the Patriots in the game allowing two goals in 93:58 minutes, and recorded four saves.

His counterpart Jared Wilson (2-0) also went the distance as goalkeeper and allowed the lone goal from the Patriots and grabbed four saves as well.

Dallas Baptist continues the last leg of its six game trip on Thursday, Sept. 19 at West Texas A&M for a 7 pm kickoff.
