Women's Soccer Drops Saturday Contest with St. Edward's

Box Score

DALLAS – A stormy afternoon and two late goals were enough to dampen the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer team against St. Edward's 2-0 for a loss on Saturday. The Patriots (3-3-1) fall back to .500 for the third time this season, while SEU (4-0-2) remains unbeaten and picks up its second straight win.

The first half was ruled by the defense as DBU outshot the Hilltoppers 5-1, but did place three shots on goal. Midway through the half, rain poured down for nearly five minutes at Patriot Soccer Field, but play never stalled.

St. Edward's did fire eight shots off in the second half to gain the advantage 9-7 on the game. Most of the second frame played similarly to the first, with neither team having much success offensively.

In the 75th minute, Lauren Heller took advantage of a loose ball by the net and knocked in the goal. This proved huge as play was halted with 14:39 remaining in the game, due to lightening in the area.

After an hour and a half delay, both teams resumed action to finish the match. DBU had an opportunity to knot the score at one apiece, but Dixie Kurrus's shot sailed right, just inches off the net.

Heller widened the gap by adding her second goal of the game at the 81:54 mark off an assist from Rachel Murray. With lightening striking again in the area, the game was called at the 84:41 minute mark for good.

The Patriots were led by Kurrus with two shot attempts. Danielle Presley, Lea Sedwick, Annie Wells, Jessica Salas, and Rebecca Kernen all recorded shots as well. DBU finished the game with three shots on goal from three different players in Kernen, Kurrus, and Wells.

Kerry Edwards (3-3-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing two goals and picking up two saves.

Lorrie Santoy (1-0-1) claimed her first win, working 39:41 minutes in the net.

Dallas Baptist opens Heartland Conference action next Saturday at McMurry University. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 pm.
