Patriots Suffer Road Loss at Rogers State

Box Score

Fresh off an 11 day break, the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team fell 90-74 on the road at Rogers State on Thursday in Claremore, Oklahoma. DBU led in the early stages of the contest, going up by six in the game's first six minutes, but it was a lead that would be short-lived, as Rogers State took the lead for good on a J.C. Hartzler three pointer with 8:38 remaining in the first half.

The Patriots (4-6, 1-2) were led by redshirt freshman, Myles Johnson, who went for a season high 21 points. Joining Johnson in double-digits were sophomore, Charles Allen, who poured in 12, while junior, Wesley Gipson, chipped in 10 of his own off the bench.

Rogers State (8-4, 3-1) was paced by Hartzler, who was uncouncious from the field, hitting eight of nine shots, including a perfect six-of-six from three point range. Three other Hillcats finished in double-figures including: Jerry Dixon with 17, Jeylyn Sharpe with 14, and Damien Hooks with 10.

Trailing by a mere three points at the half 43-40, DBU would be outscored 47-34 in the final 20 minutes. Rogers State opened up a double-digit lead in the first four and a half minutes of the second half and never looked back. The Hillcats extended their lead to 19 with just over six minutes to play and would finish with a 16 point win over the Patriots.

Despite shooting 59% from the field in the first half, DBU went cold after the break, shooting just 27% in the second half. The Patriots would lose the battle on the boards, as Rogers State outrebounded DBU 40-27. The Patriots also committed 17 turnovers compared to RSU 15. The Hillcats did most of their damage from beyond the arc, as RSU hit 11 of 17 from three-point land for an alarming 65%.

Dallas Baptist will look to even their Heartland Conference record at 2-2 when they return to the hardwood on Saturday at Arkansas-Fort Smith. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm.
