Box Score
The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team completed their two-game Heartland Conference road trip with a 74-56 loss to Arkansas Fort Smith on Saturday. The loss is the fourth consecutive for a Patriot squad in search of their first victory since December 12th, when they defeated Lubbock Christian at the Burg Center.
DBU (4-7, 1-3) kept things close in the early stages of the game, taking a two point lead, 30-28 with 7:31 remaining in the first half. That would be the last lead of the day for the Patriots, as UAFS (9-3, 2-2) outscored the Patriots 15-7 in the final seven-and-a-half minutes to take a 45-35 advantage into the locker room at the half.
The Patriots would draw to within six coming out of the break and trailed 53-47 after a
Jason Gentry layup with 11:16 to play in the game. The Lions would respond with a 10-0 run, capped off by a Jake Toupal three pointer to go up by 16 at the 7:41 mark. UAFS extended their lead to as many as 23 with just under three minutes, before closing out the Patriots 74-56.
DBU was led by redshirt sophomore,
Jonathan Perry, who poured in a team-high 15 points. Fellow sophomore,
Charles Allen, was the only other Patriot to join Perry in double-digits with 14. Toupal led the charge for the Lions with a game-high 16 points.
The Patriots shot 44% from the field in the first half, but struggled for the second straight game in the second half, shooting just 30% in the final 20 minutes. UAFS did much of their damage from beyond the arc, hitting eight of 16 shots from three-point land.
DBU returns home on Saturday, January 11th for a 2:00 pm tip-off versus Heartland Conference foe, Oklahoma Christian. Saturday's game will be the first of a season long five game homestand for the Patriots.
