THE RUNDOWN It was a successful afternoon for the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team, as a pair of freshmen scored for the first time of the campaign en route to a 4-0 win at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Â
The goal total sets a team-best for a match this season, and was powered by three first half netters, also a season-most for the Patriots.
Â
Prior to Thursday's matinee, DBU had scored two goals in the opening frame through nine contests. In the previous six matches, the Patriots had gone into halftime with no goals tallied.
Â
A quartet of players found the back of the net for the road squad, including: junior
Emilie MacDonald, junior
Ashley Cox, and freshmen
Emma Durain and
Leah Draper.
Â
DBU totaled 23 shots compared to SWOSU's six overall in the contest.
Â
Leading the way in shot attempts was Durain with six followed by redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus with five. The duo also combined for seven of the team's 11 shots on goal as Durain posted a personal best four and Kurrus added three.
Â
Ashley Cox and freshman
Lindsay McManus contributed multi-shot efforts with four and two, respectively.
Â
HIGHLIGHTSThe Patriots leaped out to their fastest start of a contest this season with MacDonald connecting on her third goal of the year at the 1:24 minute mark. Kurrus got the assist, which was her first point of the campaign.
Â
DBU did pile on 15 shot attempts in the first stanza, but didn't start capitalizing until the later portion of the half.
Ashley Cox doubled the advantage by stealing the ball from the defender near the box and hit it in for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Â
Durain connected from a pass by classmate
McKenna Namken, in the 43
rd minute as each member of the sequence notched their first career collegiate point. The play was a cross pass bottom left of the box, and fired in by the native of Houston, Texas.
Â
Another rookie this season,
Leah Draper, completed a header goal from the team's top two scoring contributors on the squad in MacDonald and Cox. The goal occurred at the 50:19 mark.
Â
Senior
Kerry Edwards had an early exit for the first time in a match this year, after shutting the Bulldogs offense down for 57:10 minutes. Freshman
Madalyn Tschantz continued the spectacular showing for first-year players in the contest, debuting with 32:50 minutes of scoreless ball. She helped seal the team's fifth shutout of the season.

COACHES' THOUGHTS"It was a great performance all-around with goals coming from four different players and tallied a shutout. It is a great result the team feels happy about, but more so with the work put in to achieve it.
Â
We got a great early goal from Emilie that set the tone for the game right away. That can really open a game up and give your team confidence. Another thing utilized today was our depth and that will help as we prepare for two more games in the next four days.
Â
Ashley had a fantastic goal and I was very happy for our two freshmen Emma and Leah for scoring the first freshman goals of the year today." Â
