Men's Soccer defeated by Eastern New Mexico

THE RUNDOWN
The Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team dropped a 3-1 contest on Saturday afternoon to Eastern New Mexico University. DBU (3-7-1) went 1-2-1 on the season-long, four-game home stand.

Both squads piled up 18 shot attempts each in the match, with the Greyhounds (5-5-2) holding a 9-6 shot on goal advantage.

Senior David Balyeat posted a game-high, eight shots, placing two on goal. Junior Brian Robertson and sophomore Riley Alvey added three shots apiece, while senior Cameron Garner kicked a season-high two attempts.

Redshirt sophomore Landon Lacy and junior Leevi Schwartz notched percent shot on goal percentages. Lacy was responsible for the lone Patriot goal, punching in his fourth of the campaign, tying a career-high.

Junior Chuck Schober (0-4-1) allowed three goals while picking up five saves in the net for the home team.

HIGHLIGHTS
Ryan McManus got the scoring started for ENMU in the 12thm minute as a trio of players connected on a sequence to lift the visitors to a 1-0 edge. Jose Hernandez and Carlos Viveros made timely passes that set McManus for a goal on the left side past the DBU defense.

The Patriots did manage a couple opportunities of their own early into the 23rd minute as Robertson and Balyeat were robbed by Eastern New Mexico's backline and keeper. The first shot attempt by Robertson got deflected and Balyeat's follow up on the rebound was saved by a diving James Gutierrez.

EMNU's goalie also accumulated five saves to qualify for the win.

It remained 1-0 at intermission.

Similar to the opening half, the Greyhounds doubled the lead 2-0 off a header from Gil Munoz at the 46:28 minute mark. The assist came from a corner kick that was punted from Viveros, who finished with three points.

With a goal barely after a minute into the second frame, the next scoring play would happen with fewer than 10 minutes in regulation. Munoz and Viveros practically replayed the previous sequence, again connecting with a header off a corner kick.

Moments later, DBU notched a goal from Lacy in the 84th minute to cut the margin 3-1. A couple more attempts following reflected a competitive shooting effort for the Patriots, but it went for naught in the setback.

TOP QUOTE
"We didn't show up to play today and aren't working as a team or unit. It was just individuals running around. The formula and system is in place we just have to execute each time we step on the field. Wake up calls should be over, but we keep hitting the snooze button." - Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Crawford
