Volleyball Loses in Five Sets to Texas Woman's

THE RUNDOWN
The Dallas Baptist Volleyball team started their road trip by losing a close five set match, 3-2 to Texas Woman's University. Tiara Gipson had a match high 23 kills, Kaycie Bird registered a match high 58 assists, and Tadam Mergener had a match high 35 digs.

To begin the first set the visiting Lady Patriots would put together an early lead against the Pioneers, 3-0. From there the Lady Patriots would continue to build on the lead widening the gap to as much as six points, 22-16. TWU would try to rally late in the set, but DBU would close the Pioneers out, 25-21.

Going into the second set the Lady Patriots would once again begin with an early lead at, 3-0 and would maintain the lead mid way through the set. With the score at 13-8 the Pioneers would go on to score 10 straight points to take the lead in the set and bring the score to 18-13. The scoring of TWU would be too much for DBU as the Pioneers would score seven of the last 10 point winning the set, 25-16 tying up the match. The third set of the night would begin with the Lady Patriots jumping out to a, 6-1 lead against the Pioneers. DBU would not hold that lead long as TWU would come back to tie the score at, 8. The two teams would trade leads until the score was tied at 22 late into the set. The Pioneers would break the stalemate scoring three of the last four points of the set winning, 25-23.

As the fourth set began, once again the Lady Patriots would engineer an early lead to begin the set, 6-0. DBU would have total control of the fourth set never allowing to TWU to gain the lead. Multiple point streaks by the Lady Patriots would help them build an insurmountable advantage to seal the set, 25-16.

The fifth and final set of the night would be close between the two teams. With the score knotted up at 9, the Pioneers would score three straight points to give TWU enough cushion to keep DBU at bay and go onto win the set, 15-12.
