THE RUNDOWNThe Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 contest at St. Mary's University on Monday. It is the fourth-straight setback for the Patriots (3-10-1, 0-4), tying a season-long.
It was a tough offensive day for DBU, getting outshot 15-4 by the Rattlers (7-5-2, 4-2). Still, the road squad battled tough locking down St. Mary's defense throughout the contest.
A second half goal from a penalty kick determined the result of this conference affair.
Junior
Alex Becerra tallied a multi-shot game, leading DBU with two goals. Sophomore
Riley Alvey posted the lone shot on goal, while freshman
Walker Beasley added a shot attempt.
Taking the difficult loss in the net was junior
Chuck Schober (0-6-1), who allowed a goal while posting three saves. It was a team effort defensively for the Patriots, as seven team saves were recorded in the match.
St. Mary's placed five players in the multi-shot category including: Jack Wolf and Armando Macias with three, and Ignacio Fernandez, Lee Micklewaite, and Arturo Sanchez totaling two each.
HIGHLIGHTS The first half resulted in a stalemate for both squads, with Dallas Baptist remaining in the game despite an 8-1 shot differential.
A penalty kick at the 55:17 minute mark ruined the shutout bid Schober and the Patriots were riding, and never produced an equalizer. It was Josh Stevens for the Rattlers that handled the game-winner and was his first of the campaign.
DBU did lift three shots toward the goal in the second frame, but could not even things in a chance to claim its first Heartland victory.
St. Mary's goalie Mitchell Kilmer nabbed the win in 90 minutes of shutout ball, while the team save turned away the Patriots' chance at getting on the scoreboard.
