THE RUNDOWNThe Dallas Baptist Men's Soccer Team could not get the equalizer and took a 3-2 setback at Rogers State on Saturday night. DBU (3-11-1, 0-5) has dropped a season-long, five games in a row. Each one has been by two goals or less, and the previous pair of contests were decided by a single scoring result.
Neither squad got on the scoreboard in the first half, but RSU (7-8, 3-3) would utilize a trio of goals in the second stanza to build its largest advantage of the contest. The Patriots would nip away at the deficit, cutting things to one thanks to two goals from junior
Cameron Gilbert.
The native of Burleson, Texas produced his first two of the campaign and moved DBU within a goal of knotting things up to force overtime. His second goal occurred at the 87:59 minute mark and narrowed the gap to a single goal difference versus the Hillcats.
DBU was outshot 19-10 in this contest.
Junior
Brian Robertson and Gilbert recorded multi-shooting contests with three and two attempts apiece.
Fellow classmate
Chuck Schober drew the start, and was saddled with the loss after allowing two goals in the first 60:35 minutes of the match. Schober tallied two saves. Sophomore
Mason Stringer finished the remaining 29:25, and nabbed a save.
HIGHLIGHTS A scoreless first half highlighted things on both sides in the opening 45 minutes, despite RSU lifting 10 shot attempts in the frame. The Hillcats remained giving high pressure in the second half, following nine by the home squad.
DBU remained in the contest, tallying six shots in the second half to improve by two from earlier that affair in the beginning half.
Roger State's Dylan Beaird handled things within the first 11 minutes of the second frame, clinching the matches' first goals at the 50:37 and 56:49 minute marks, respectively. Lars Lindtern contributed what would be the eventual game-decider in the 63
rd minute prior DBU's comeback.
Gilbert, who tied his career high in goals following two last season, would get the Patriots on the scoreboard at the 65:05 mark. Redshirt sophomore
Landon Lacy and
Brian Robertson added assists on the scoring sequence.
Robertson would be involved in another assist, providing an excellent setup off a free kick in the final three minutes of the contest, to Gilbert.
