Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to UT-Permian Basin

THE RUNDOWN
The slide continues for the Dallas Baptist Volleyball team as they lose in five sets to the University of Texas-Permian Basin, 3-2. Erika Papadeas led DBU with 16 kills and Kaycie Bird had a match high 56 assists.

To begin the first set the Lady Patriots would build an early 8-2 lead to gain an advantage on the Falcons. DBU would never lose the lead during the set and would control the set the whole way through winning the set, 25-21.

The second set of the afternoon would see DBU and UTPB exchanging leads early as neither team led by more than two points. With the score tied at 12, The Falcons would begin to try and separate themselves from the Lady Patriots by scoring six of the next eight points taking the lead, 18-14. The cushion created by UTPB would slowly diminish as DBU would climb back to tie the game at, 21. As both squads journeyed into extra point territory late in the set UTPB would come out victorious claiming the second set, 27-25.

In the third set DBU would waste no time building an early, 4-1 lead against UTPB. Multiple point streaks by the Lady Patriots would build the lead to, 11-6. DBU would hold the lead going deep into the set until the Falcons were able to tie up the set at 18, and began to take the lead at 19-18. The teams would tie again a few points later at 21, but the Lady Patriots would take hold of the lead to maintain to win the set, 25-23 in a very close set.

Despite DBU building an early lead they would not be able keep up with the urgency that UTPB played with. Multiple three point streaks allowed the Falcons to capture the fourth set, 25-19. In the fifth and final set of the afternoon the Lady Patriots would at one point engineer a, 8-6 lead over the Falcons, but then UTPB would respond by scoring six straight points taking the lead, 12-8. DBU would go onto score only once more before UT-Permian Basin won the set, 15-10 winning the match.
