THE RUNDOWNThe Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 double overtime contest on Saturday versus St. Edward's University in the Heartland Conference opener. This setback occurs a week after the Patriots (4-3-1, 0-1) completed a 1-0 win at Austin, Texas over the league rival.
Â
Despite the Patriots' fourth decision decided by a 1-0 scoreboard tally, both programs broke double figures in the shooting category with the home squad claiming a 15-13 edge.
Â
It is the first time since the schools played in Austin, Texas on September 15, 2012; each posted a double-digit shooting performance. Six matches were completed after that effort prior to tonight's meeting.
Â
DBU has now played in four overtime affairs, surpassing the total in the entire 2013 campaign. Three of those matches have been at Patriot Soccer Field, with the club now 1-2-1 after tonight's result.
Â
A trio of players notched multi-shot displays led by junior
Ashley Cox with seven total. The Midlothian, Texas, native placed three of them on goal, helping amass a large portion of DBU's seven on the evening. Â Â
Â
Fellow classmate,
Lindsey Eccles and redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus contributed three and two shots, respectively while adding a shot on goal. Senior
Lea Sedwick and freshman
Emma Durain were a perfect 1-for-1 apiece in the shots on goal percentage.
Â
HIGHLIGHTS It was another defensive struggle for both squads, as neither found the back of the net in regulation.
Â
The home team outshot the Hilltoppers 6-4 in the first half, and posting a .500 average for shots on goal.
Â
A critical juncture of the game occurred at the 57:59 minute mark, with Sedwick provided a penalty kick opportunity. The midfielder missed the attempt, as SEU's goalkeeper Lorrie Santoy notched one of her seven overall saves.
Â
Things would remain about even, as both the Hilltoppers (5-4, 1-0) and DBU could not amount any goals through the first two halves. After a scoreless first overtime, Lauren Heller punched the game-winner at the 100:59 mark of the contest. It was her second goal of the season.
