THE LEADThe Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team begin a season-long, seven-game road trip that includes two non-conference affairs prior to Heartland play continuing the remainder of the campaign.
Â
This lengthy stretch kicks off on Thursday, October 9 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a 3 PM start time.
Â
All eight contests the Women's Soccer Team (4-3-1) have been involved in have been low scoring, with neither competitor collecting more than two goals. The last three matches DBU has been involved in were decided in 1-0 fashion. Â
Â
The Patriots have been involved in four overtime affairs already, surpassing last season's total. One more extended regulation match will set a new program record.
Â
MOST RECENT ACTIONAnother overtime game awaited DBU, the third time in four home appearances at Patriot Soccer Field, as Heartland foe, St. Edward's University won 1-0 in the second extra half. It evened the season-series between the squads 1-1, as DBU snapped a three-game skid versus the rival nearly two weeks ago in Austin.
Â
This setback did count as the first decision in conference play, as the Patriots moved to 0-1 following the opener.
Â
Both teams cracked double figures in shot attempts, with SEU edging the home squad, 15-13. It marked the first time since September 15, 2012 a team in this match-up boasted a double-digit total in that category.
Â
A trio of players notched multi-shot efforts led by junior
Ashley Cox with seven total. Fellow classmate,
Lindsey Eccles and redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus contributed three and two shots, respectively.
Â
Senior
Kerry Edwards continued to hold opponents scoreless in the third consecutive match, until Lauren Heller kicked the game-winner at the 100:59 minute mark. DBU's scoreless streak ended at 280:59 minutes, a season-long barely topping a previous high a couple weeks earlier in the year that ended at 280:43 minutes against Texas A&M-Commerce.
Â
IMPACT PLAYERSA pair of players have posted multiple goals on the season, with Cox pacing the squad with three, and sophomore
Emilie MacDonald adding two. The forward duo also ranks in the top spots on the team with six and five points, respectively. Matching MacDonald in the point's category is senior
Lea Sedwick.
Â
Cox is ahead of the group with 33 shots total, and also is atop of the rankings with 12 shots on goal. Redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus is behind at 19. Sedwick and MacDonald are tied for third on the squad with 17.
Â
Junior
Lindsey Eccles has totaled 16 while placing seven on goal, and freshman
Emma Durain rounds out the double-digit unit with 11 attempts. Â
Â
Edwards has been closing on some huge historical numbers in the recent matches. The McKinney, Texas, native is a win away from 50 in her four-year starting career. She also is only nine saves away from logging 250 over the keeper's collegiate span.
Â
On the current year, Edwards has picked up 31 saves and allowed six goals. At this point of the campaign, Edwards has amassed a season-high 765:20 minutes, working all of them in the net for a team that has gone beyond regulation four times.
Â
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGSSouthwestern Oklahoma State (2-7-1) was won two of its last three contests, including a 3-2 triumph most recently at Ouachita Baptist University. The team's total amount of goals in the affair were a season-high.
Â
Charlotte Eastman scored in the win, and increased her team-lead in goals to three overall. Joining her to form a quartet of multi-scoring performers that have contributed to the squad's nine goals include: Cori Kelly, Olivia Butler, and Shelley Mueller.
Â
Courtney Flores has amassed all 949:11 minutes in 10 games for SWOSU allowing 22 goals and picking up 60 saves. She does have one shutout on the year.
Â
SERIES HISTORYThe programs have met once dating back to 2004, and that match-up occurred last year at Patriot Soccer Field. The contest resulted in a 1-0 setback for DBU.
Â
Despite reflecting a 15-8 shot advantage, the Patriots were unable to sneak the ball towards the back of the net, and were topped by a goal in the 71
st minute by the visiting Bulldogs. Samantha Nunez scored the deciding netter.
Â
Departed senior
Danielle Presley piled a team-high six shots and two on goal in the game. Kurrus and
Ashley Cox added four and two shots, respectively. Senior
Jake Cox, sophomore
Rebecca Kernen, Cox, and Eccles all produced perfect shot on goal percentages, as the team put eight total on the target.
Â
SWOSU's Flores was in the net that match, and turned away eight shots for that many saves.
Â
