Second Half Rally Lifts DBU to Win Over Cougars

Box Score

THE LEAD
Playing in their second game in as many days, the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team won 93-89 over Colorado Christian in their final game of the Heartland Conference vs. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tip-Off.  Trailing by 12 points at the half and by as many as 14 early in the second half, the Patriots mounted an epic come-from-behind victory to even their record at 1-1.

For the second straight day, Myles Johnson led DBU's scoring efforts pouring in a game-high 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field, including 6-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Down 14 points in the early stages of the second half, the Patriots went on a 27-13 run, capped off by a Johnson three-pointer to tie the game at 65 apiece with 10:46 remaining in the game.  Just seconds later, Tim Simmons' layup in the paint gave DBU their first lead since they led 3-0 in the game's opening moments.

A trifecta from Colorado Christian's Michael Brown would give Colorado Christian (0-2) the lead back with 4:39 remaining.  That would be the last lead of the night for the Cougars, as DBU reclaimed an 83-82 advantage on a Jonathan Perry bucket on the Patriots' next trip down the floor.

DBU closed out the final four-and -a-half minutes outscoring Colorado Christian 10-7 to claim a four point victory at the buzzer.

On the day, the Patriots had five players score in double digits, including Johnson (24), Shannon Lilly (15), Franklin Uzonwanne (14), Amari Bryant (11), and Wesley Gipson (10).

DBU HEAD COACH – BLAKE FLICKNER
"I'm really proud of how our guys responded in the second half today.  Our defense was much better in the second half.  We won the rebounding battle and the turnover battle.  We stuck together after we were down and adjusted.  Myles and Shannon were special on the offensive end, and Wes and Pratt really raised our defensive intensity and got a lot of deflections."
