Box Score
The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team had a four-game win streak snapped on Thursday night at Oklahoma Christian, falling by a score of 77-60. DBU entered the night one game behind Texas-Permian Basin for the final spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament. With UTPB off tonight, the Patriots now find themselves one-and-a-half games out of fourth place in the league with two games remaining on the schedule.
DBU (11-13, 7-9) saw an early 3-2 lead quickly evaporate, as OCU went on a 12-0 run over a six-minute span. The Patriots would respond with a run of their own, tying the game at 26 apiece with 1:48 to play in the half, before the Eagles (8-16, 4-12) scored the final five points to take a 31-26 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, OCU's Kendre Talley, sparked an 18-6 run with six of his game-high 23 points to open up a 49-33 lead. DBU would not draw any closer than eight the rest of the way, falling by 17 points at the final buzzer.
The Patriots were plagued by an ice cold night from beyond the arc, shooting a mere 22 percent on 8-of-36 shooting. On the defensive end, DBU struggled to contain the trio of Nick Tate, John Moon and Jordan VanDeKop, who combined to score 42 points. On the night, OCU shot 54 percent from the field.
The Patriots were led by redshirt-freshman,
Myles Johnson, who racked up 18 points. The Heartland Conference's leading scorer,
Jonathan Perry, was kept in check, scoring just 11 points off the bench. The duo of Johnson and Perry were the only two Patriots to register double-digit performances.
With the loss, DBU drops the season series to Oklahoma Christian, while OCU snaps an eight-game losing streak.
The Patriots return to the hardwood on Saturday at 11:10 am, when they face Newman University in a nationally televised game on the CBS Sports Network. Following their contest at Newman, DBU wraps-up the 2013-14 regular season at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Thursday, February 27.
