Patriots Handed 22 Point Loss at Lubbock Christian

Box Score

In the midst of their longest road trip of the season, the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team fell to 7-12 overall and 4-8 in the Heartland Conference, with a 74-52 loss to Lubbock Christian. The 22 point loss to the Chaparrals marks the largest margin of defeat for the Patriots this year and evens the season series between the two teams. DBU had defeated Lubbock Christian (12-6, 7-5) 61-59 at the Burg Center in the conference opener on December 12th.

LCU's, Anthony Brancato, led the way for the Chaps, recording a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Patriots lone player in double-figures was redshirt sophomore, Jonathan Perry, who chipped in 10 on the night.

After opening up a four point lead on a three-pointer by senior, Cory Carden, at the midway point of the first half, LCU went on a 27-15 run to close out the first 20 minutes of action. The Chaps took command in the second half, shooting 58% from the field, while holding DBU to a mere 8-of-22. The Patriots were also held in check on the boards, as LCU out rebounded DBU 35-19. The redounding margin resulted in the Patriots being outscored in the paint 28-12.

Trailing 37-29 coming out of the break, DBU pulled to within five, when Carden drained his second shot from beyond the arc, just 30 seconds into the second half. That would be as close as the Patriots would come, as the Chaps scored the next eight points, before a timeout at the 16:19 mark. LCU remained in complete control the rest of the way, leading by as many as 27, before closing out the Patriots by a 22 point deficit.

The loss drops DBU to four games under .500 in the Heartland, with six games remaining in conference play. DBU travels to Texas-Permian Basin for a 2 pm tip-off Saturday, before returning home for a three-game homestand, beginning with Arkansas-Fort Smith on February 13th.
