Women's Soccer First win Comes in Home Opener

THE RUNDOWN
The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team (1-1-1) earned its first victory of the 2014 season in the home opener versus Colorado Mesa University on Thursday night. The Patriots were able to hold the opposing squad to seven shots in their first shutout of the year.

Senior Kerry Edwards collected the win, notching the 46th victory of her career.  In the process, the Mavericks (0-2-1) became the McKinney, Texas, native's 39th shutout victim. Edwards also nabbed four saves in 90 minutes of action.

HIGHLIGHTS
* A 12-3 first half shot advantage reflected the amount of opportunities the Patriots would manage to have throughout the affair, but couldn't get the ball in the net.  Junior Emilie MacDonald broke through in the 75th minute for her first goal of the season off an inside shot that came on a pass from senior Lea Sedwick.
* Fellow junior, Ashley Cox, doubled the lead and netted her first goal as she threaded the ball about 20 yards away, sneaking it just beyond the keeper's reach in the upper center portion between the posts.
* CMU's Sarah Schnetzler (0-2-1) collected nine saves, but was a tough-luck loser in the 2-0 result, in which she allowed both scores in 90 minutes.

TOP QUOTE
"It was nice to be back home to play today in front of our friends and family. We are happy with the result tonight, but feel there are still plenty of areas we can improve in.  We are creating a lot of chances in front of the goal and hope to improve our percentage by finishing those chances. Overall I am very happy with the direction of the team and feel we are building very well at this point of the season."
- DBU Head Coach Michelle Lenard
