Women's Soccer Prevails in Overtime

THE RUNDOWN
The Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team triumphed 1-0 in overtime against Fort Lewis College in front of a large crowd for Parent Weekend on Saturday. Junior Ashley Cox's golden foot provided the difference in what was a thrilling battle through 90 minutes of regulation.

The Patriots (2-1-1) blasted 21 shots, mustering a total over the 20 mark in back-to-back matches. They collected a season-high, 28 in Thursday's victory against Colorado Mesa University.

HIGHLIGHTS
The home squad began pressuring more in the second half, and resulted in a double-digit shooting frenzy with 11. After several close efforts, DBU seemed to be near breaking the scoreless affair.

Redshirt junior Dixie Kurrus nearly clinched a goal, clinking the left post in the 82nd minute of the nail biter.

Fort Lewis poured on the attack in the ensuing moments following, as senior Kerry Edwards pulled down two of her three saves in the match. The Skyhawks last shot would be at the 84:41 mark.

Neither team had many opportunities in the first half, with DBU attempting eight to the Skyhawks (1-2-1) five. Cox had a team-high, three shots in the frame. The score was 0-0 at intermission.

With things scoreless through regulation, junior Emilie MacDonald had a shot blocked about a minute into overtime. At the 91:47 minute mark, the native of Cedar Hill, Texas, came up with a slick cross pass from the left side and Cox slipped it into the back of the net.

LEADING STATS
Six players collected multi-shot games led by Cox and junior Lindsey Eccles with six and four, respectively.

A quartet of Patriots posted two shots including: senior Lea Sedwick, freshman Kendall Wells, Kurrus, and Emilie MacDonald.

Edwards (2-1-1) was once again lights out between the posts, facing nine shots and not allowing a goal for her consecutive shutout of the season.

TOP QUOTE
"This was a very exciting day for the program with the dedication of the new soccer field house. There was a lot going on and a lot of potential distractions for the players and I thought they handled it very well. Overall we were very happy with the performance. We continue to create a lot of chances and once we start putting more of our shots on fram, I think we will see this team score a lot of goals. The girls showed a lot of reslience today and certainly deserved to get the win."
- Head Coach Michelle Lenard
