THE RUNDOWNA goal in the final minute of the second half by junior
Emilie MacDonald wasn't enough Tuesday night, as the Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team fell 2-1 in double overtime against Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Â
The setback snapped a two-game winning streak for DBU (2-2-1) and was the first loss at Patriot Soccer Field this year. Despite pouring on season-highs in shot attempts and shots on goal with 36 and 14, respectively, the home squad rarely broke past the Lion's goalkeeper, Courtnie Northern, who recorded 13 saves in 102:34 minutes.
Â
A goal in the second extra frame by Vicky Back was the difference-maker for TAMUC. Her golden goal came through at the 102:34 mark.
Â
HIGHLIGHTS DBU and the Lions played a back-and-forth match from the onset, exchanging looks early on, but never gaining much of a favorable edge. Things shifted mostly towards favoring the Patriots on offense, as the team matched a season-best three shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the affair.
Â
That total quickly leaped to a huge 15-5 difference by halftime. Yet, for the third consecutive home game, both squads were scoreless heading into intermission.
Â
For the second-straight half, DBU maintained the same script firing 18 shots, a team-high for a half this year; while the Lions only took four shots.
Â
One of those was on a fast break by Jade Bell who broke past the stellar defense and scored in the 67th minute. DBU's defense had gone 280:43 minutes without allowing a goal, including back-to-back shutouts in the first pair of contests at home. One of those was also an overtime decision.
Â
MacDonald's second goal of the year was punched deep in the box on the right side, and seemly lost steam after being deflected by a TAMUC defender. The misdirection was enough to slip into the net and dramatically sent this match into DBU's third overtime battle of the campaign. Â Â
Â
Bell again would be involved in a scoring opportunity, this time collecting an assist from a corner kick that Back would sneak past the goal line and secure a win for the road team.
Â
LEADING STATSSeveral players either broke or tied milestones in the offensive shot category tonight. Pacing the offense with a career-best eight attempts was redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus. MacDonald and junior
Ashley Cox followed with six attempts. The team's lone scorer set a season-high, while Cox matched her season-best for two-straight matches.
Â
Nine players totaled multi-shot attempts on the evening. Among them tallying perfect shooting on goal percentages were junior
Jolee Patterson and freshman
Emma Durain with a two-for-two display. Senior
Lea Sedwick also boasted a high result placing three of four shots on the target.
Other notable individuals breaking into this high shooting barrage were freshmen Lindsey McManus and
Kendall Wells, and junior
Lindsey Eccles.
Â
Edwards was tabbed with the loss, allowing two goals and gathering five saves.

TOP QUOTE"Honestly I am happy with the overall level of play. Of course we don't like the result, but we continue to improve our team play and are creating more chances than we ever have before. If I had to guess I'd say we may have broken a record in our program for shots taken in one game. We will now buckle down and focus on finishing those chances." -Women's Soccer Head Coach

UP NEXT Dallas Baptist will head on a two-game road trip that begins at West Texas A&M University on September 20. Kickoff is set to begin at 12 PM.
