DBU gets back on the pitch for a non-conference affair versus Heartland Conference rival, St. Edward's University.
The match-up between the squads is set on Friday, September 26 at 4 PM.
Both programs have been atop of the league standings the previous three seasons, including trips to the conference tournament finals in every one. SEU holds a 1-2 edge in those contests, with DBU's lone victory occurring in Austin, Texas.
All six affairs the Women's Soccer Team (3-2-1) have been involved in have been low scoring, as the squad has allowed five combined goals to the opposition overall. DBU has tallied no more than two goals thus far, and has totaled seven altogether.
The Patriots have been involved in three overtime affairs already, matching last season's total.
MOST RECENT ACTIONJunior
Annie Wells scored her first goal of the campaign in the 47
th minute, and the Patriot defense limited West Texas A&M to four shots in a 1-0 decision last Saturday. DBU's win helps match the same record the team claimed through the same amount of games last year.
Senior Kerry Edward's suited up for her 75
th collegiate slate and nabbed three saves in her third shutout. Wells and junior
Lindsey Eccles notched multi-shot games for the Patriots, as the hero of the nail-biter shot perfect two-for-two shots on goal.
IMPACT PLAYERSA pair of players have posted multiple goals on the season, with juniors
Ashley Cox and
Emilie MacDonald tying a team-best, two apiece. All their goals have come at Patriot Soccer Field, and Cox has placed four of seven shots on goal there.
Cox paces the group with 24 total, while a trio of women soccer players are tied with 16. Amongst that group include: MacDonald, redshirt junior
Dixie Kurrus, and senior Sedwick. Eccles has increased her overall number to 12, and breaking past the feat for the first time in her career is freshman
Emma Durain with 10.
Sedwick is tied with Cox with eight shots on goal, while Kurrus and Eccles have found the target six times a piece.
Edwards has been closing on some huge historical numbers in the recent matches. The McKinney, Texas, native is two wins shy of 50 in her career, going 48-17 through four excellent seasons, including the first three with winning records.
On the current year, the keeper has picked up 26 saves and allowed five goals. At this point of the campaign, Edwards has amassed a season-high 574:21 minutes, working all of them in the net for a team that has gone beyond regulation three times.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS St. Edward's has been ranked as high as number four in the national standings, but took a hit in the voting after a 3-1 road setback against Texas Woman's University last Sunday. Regardless, SEU (4-2) will be primed for another tough battle with the Patriots on its home turf.
The Hilltoppers are 2-1 at their friendly confines, with the single loss coming at the hands of No. 12 Colorado School of Mines at the time. The 1-0 result required overtime before being decided.
All of SEU's victories have come at the hand of a shutout, and with the exception of the latest affair, every contest St. Edward's was involved in ended in shutout fashion.
Riana Soobadoo paces the Hilltopper's offense with six points and three goals. A quartet of players are tied in second with four points each. Ari Garcia and Lauren Heller have contributed a goal and two assists, while Cailyn Trapani and Whytneigh Duffie added a pair of goals.
Lorrie Santoy has garnered the most action in the goalkeeper spot, tallying 510:45 minutes and collecting 17 saves off 40 shots faced. She has only allowed four goals totaled, which three occurred in the latest match-up.
SERIES HISTORYIn previous meetings, DBU has gone 4-15 overall versus the Hilltoppers, dating back to 2004 when the squads played each other at least twice. The programs have met at least three times in the latest trio of campaigns, including the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship.
During that stretch, SEU holds a 6-3 edge, and is 1-2 in league tournament affairs. The last victory for the Patriots was on the road in the 2012 Heartland Championship.
In 2013, it was a difficult sweep for DBU to absorb, with the last pair of matches being decided by a single goal. In the 2-1 setback during the league tournament contest, departed senior
Danielle Presley, scored the only goal in three games the two teams met on the pitch for Dallas Baptist.
Her netter cut a 2-0 deficit in half, as SEU's Jessica Traves boasted a game-high, three points with an assist on the first goal by Heller, and later secured the victory with the second goal of the championship.
Edward's played in all three matches, including a weather-shortened decision which allowed the goalie 264:41 minutes of action. The senior allowed five goals while nabbing four saves, as neither squad ever accomplished double-digit shot totals in the trio of meetings.
