THE RUNDOWNThe Dallas Baptist Volleyball team lost 3-2 in a thrilling five set match against Southeastern Oklahoma State in non-conference action. For the Lady Patriots
Tiara Gipson had a game high 20 kills,
Kaycie Bird had a game high 48 assists and
Tadam Mergener also had a game high registering 35 digs.
Very aggressive play from both teams as there would be many lead changes early in the first set. The Savage Storm would go on to build a 12-9 lead through the set, but that lead would fade away as the Lady Patriots would go on two massive seven point streaks. The first of the two streaks would put DBU up 16-12 and the following run would close out the first set, 25-16.
In the second set SE would not allow themselves to have the same fate as they did in the first. After once again having a 12-9 lead on DBU, they would not relinquish the lead and cruise to a, 25-13 set victory tying up the match.
Through the third set with both teams tied at 12, the Lady Patriots would go on a 6-1 lead pushing the score to 18-13. While Southeastern Oklahoma State would try to rally back it would not be enough as DBU would win the set, 25-19 taking the match lead 2-1.
The Savage Storm would jump out to an early 7-1 lead in the fourth set and continue to ride that momentum to tie the match, 2-2 and win the set, 25-18. Starting the fifth and final set the Lady Patriots would jump out to an early 6-1 lead, but as the set went on DBU would prove to be their own worst enemy as costly attack errors would keep SE in the game and ultimately fuel their comeback defeating the Lady Patriots 16-14 to close the match. Â
COACH'S QUOTE "
Carly Hess did an amazing job hitting .417, that's fantastic and Tadam again is leading us in digs. We're just still struggling with execution. We've been working hard in practice to do that and we will continue to. We're seeing a little bit of improvement the problem is that we're lacking a second outside that can terminate. It'll be exciting to see in practice everybody getting a chance to see  who can do that and who'll step up to the plate." - Coach
Cathy KokelÂ
