SUMMARYThe Dallas Baptist Women's Soccer Team battled No. 9 Colorado School of Mines to a 1-1 result on Thursday night. Despite being outshot 19-8, DBU (0-0-1) held the top-10 NSCAA ranked program to one goal through 110 minutes of action.
Senior
Kerry Edwards garnered seven saves and allowed one goal in the draw. Her counterpart Jayln Yates was just as effective in the net for the Orediggers (0-0-1), collecting a save and goal allowed.
The Patriots placed two shots on goal, with one of them hitting the mark from senior
Lea Sedwick. It was the Kennedale, Texas, native's first of the campaign and only attempt of the contest. Junior
Ashley Cox tallied the other shot on goal, while freshman
Emma Durain debuted with a team-high, two shots.
HIGHLIGHTSDBU was aggressive in the early going, notching four shot attempts for its highest in a half during the match. One of those counted as a netter from Sedwick at the 22:06 minute mark off a penalty kick. The goal was the lone score of the affair at that point as the road squad held a 1-0 edge at the break.
Not too far into the second frame, CSM would answer with a goal from Deidre Johnson at the 48:59 mark. Kendra Bulawa set up her teammate with an excellent right outside cross pass that Johnson completed with a header.
Still, a game-high eight shot attempts of a half got taken by the Orediggers, but DBU managed to hold firm through regulation. Both squads combined for seven shots in the first overtime half, but again the defense maintained a 1-1 score.
A shot from Durain went wide right in the second extra frame in the 104
th minute and was the last of the offense for the road team. CSM got two kicks off, with Johnson's last hit for the team coming at the 107:28 mark and getting blocked. Defense ruled the season-opener for both programs.
