Lady Patriots Open Season With Loss To Newman

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Lady Patriots Volleyball team opened the 2014 season against the Newman Lady Jets, Thursday, dropping a decision 3-1. With the loss DBU is 0-1 overall and in Heartland Conference play.

After dropping the first two sets to the Lady Jets 25-22 and 25-21, the Lady Patriots were able to fight back in the third.  The Lady Patriots took total control of the third and would go on to win the set 25-15. The Lady Jets would close the match out in the fourth by the score of 25-21 as they were led by freshman Kayla Turner who turned in 18 points and 15 kills.

DBU was lead by Tiara Iwegbu and Hannah Ballew, who finished with 15 kills and 19 digs respectively. Kaycie Bird finished with a match high 46 assists.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
The last time NU won versus DBU was on October 16, 2010.
Tiara Iwegbu had a game high .483 hitting percentage.
Despite the loss DBU lead the game in block assists with 16 to Newman's 6.   
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Newman out dug Dallas Baptist 81 to 68.

The Lady Patriots next outing will be this Saturday, September 6 in Goodwell, OK versus Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Tip-off is at noon.
