DBU Storms Past Oklahoma Panhandle State

Box Score

THE LEAD
Playing in their second game of a three-game road trip, the Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team blew past Oklahoma Panhandle State 80-63 on Saturday afternoon in Goodwell, Oklahoma.  DBU redshirt-junior, Jonathan Perry, led the way for the Patriots, scoring a team-high 17 points in the win.

After falling behind 7-2 in the game's first two minutes, DBU (8-3, 2-1) went on a 13-0 run and never looked back.  The Patriots extended their lead to 20 on a Chris Strong layup with 4:11 remaining in the first half.  Still up by 20 in the final seconds of the half, Carter Trent drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to put DBU up 45-22 over OPSU (2-9, 0-3) at the break.

The Patriots lead grew to as large as 24 when Perry connected on a shot from beyond the arc in the opening seconds of the second half.  The Aggies, who were led by one of the nation's top scorers, Antonio Manns Jr., cut the deficit to 12 with 5:32 to play, but could never draw any closer.  Manns finished with a game-high 22 points.

Alongside Perry's 17 point day, Myles Johnson added 12 and Amari Bryant scored 11 for DBU.  The Patriots also received a monumental effort on the boards from Strong, who grabbed 11 rebounds and helped DBU outrebound the Aggies by a margin of 44-30.

The win pushes DBU's overall record to 8-3 and matches the team's best start to a season since the 2011-2012 season.
