THE LEADThe Dallas Baptist Volleyball Team have extended their winning streak to four matches after defeating, the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps in four sets, 3-1.
Carly Hess and
Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick both had match highs with 14 kills each.
Madeline Dolberry also had a match high nine blocks.
Kaycie Bird and
Lauren Nicks registered 26 assists and 22 digs, respectively.
In the first set of the afternoon, DBU would fall to the offensive output given by the Lady Chaps. Behind 14-11 mid-set, LCU would rattle off ten straight points, taking advantage of DBU errors and service aces, to go up 21-14. Looking to slow the Lady Chaps down, the Lady Patriots scored three straight points of their own behind a
Cooper Martin kill to trail LCU 21-17. The Lady Chaps still had the hot hand, scoring the final four points of the set to win 25-17, and lead the match 1-0.
After starting the second set with an early 9-7 advantage, the Lady Patriots once again saw an LCU rally, this time of three scores to take a 10-9 lead. DBU tied up the match and pulled ahead, 12-11, but the Lady Chaps continued their offense of stacking points regaining the lead, 14-12. Down 23-21 late, it seemed the Lady Patriots started to heat up themselves, starting with a
Carly Hess kill which led to a three point streak, to give DBU a 24-23 lead. Not able to seal the game winning score, DBU watched LCU retake the lead at 25-24. In extra points back to back kills by
Cooper Martin and
Brooke Manley and a service error would be what DBU needed to seal the second set, 27-24, tying the match 1-1.
With a hitting percentage of .325 and 15 kills the third set would prove to be the best for the Lady Patriots. DBU remained in the lead for the majority of the set, despite LCU's comeback efforts. With the Lady Patriots ahead 15-11, the Lady Chaps scored four of the next five points to trail 15-14. As the game progressed, LCU would remain close, but DBU looked to not take any chances and ended the third, scoring three of the last four points closed out by a kill by
Madeline Dolberry. DBU won 25-21, taking a 2-1 match lead.
Both squads played a tightly knitted set in the fourth. With the score tied at 10-10, a Martin kill opened up a DBU rally where they scored eight of the next nine points going up 18-11 on the Lady Chaps. The streak by the Lady Patriots took the fight out of LCU, as they cruised to a 25-17 fourth set win and claim a 3-1 match victory.Â
