DBU Silences Southeastern Oklahoma in Four Sets

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist Volleyball reached a season high five match winning streak after defeating, the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm in four set, 3-1. Leading the way for the Lady Patriots was Madeline Dolberry with 10 kills and Kaycie Bird with 23 assists. Lauren Nicks had a match  high 22 digs.

In the first set of the evening, DBU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against SOSU. As the set continued, the Lady Patriots advantage would start to lessen as the Savage Storm closed in by only one point trailing, 11-10. Behind kills from Brooke Manley and Cooper Martin, DBU scored five of the next seven points to go up 16-12. Late into the set with a 19-16 lead, the Lady Patriots pulled out a quartet of kills by Madeline Dolberry, Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick, and Martin to increase their advantage to 23-16 and ultimately win the set, 25-16, taking a 1-0 match lead.

SOSU engineered a 7-3 lead, which quickly faded in the second set. DBU responded by scoring four straight points to tie up the set 7-7. Through action, DBU would take advantage of errors by SOSU, which gave them their first lead of the set and go up 13-10. SOSU regained the lead scoring the next four points, 14-13, which DBU later tied making the score 14-14. The two teams played closely as play entered extra points. With the score knotted at 24-24, a key mistake by the Lady Patriots and a service ace sealed the second set for SOSU winning 26-24, tying the match 1-1.

Falling behind early in the third set, the Lady Patriots trailed the Savage Storm, 6-3. DBU scored four of the next six points, to close the gap only trailing by one point, 8-7. After the DBU rally, OPSU made a rally of their own scoring seven of the next nine points to establish a firm 15-9 lead mid-set. Down but not out, the Lady Patriots exploded on offense scoring ten of the next 11 points to control the set 19-16. The Savage Storm would not go away easily tying the set, 23-23 late, but back to back kills by Carly Hess and Manley would halt SOSU as DBU claimed the third 25-23, taking a 2-1 set lead.

The Lady Patriots came out scorching in the fourth! With the score tied 2-2, kills by Dolberry, Fitzpatrick, and Jenna Elkins would ignite a run that saw DBU score ten of the next 12 points, going ahead 12-4.
