THE LEADIn their third of three consecutive road matches, the Dallas Baptist Volleyball Team bounced back from back to back losses to sweep the St. Mary's Rattlers, 3-0.
Brooke Manley and
Lauren Nicks had match highs of 16 kills and 23 digs, receptively, with
Kaycie Bird turning in 21 assists.
In the first set StMU began with a 7-4 lead , DBU would take advantage of errors to tie the set 7-7. As play progressed the Lady Patriots fell behind the Rattlers, 14-10. Despite the deficit DBU stayed close to StMU putting together a 6-2 run, en route to tying the set at 22 after a
Madeline Dolberry kill. A kill by
Carly Hess would put the Lady Patriots up 23-22 which helped them secure the set for a 25-23 win taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
Leads would be short lived in the second set of the afternoon with both squads gaining no more than a two point advantage. With the set tied 18-18, scores by
Brooke Manley would help DBU gain a 20-18 upper hand over StMU, with the Rattlers responding with two points of their own to tie the set once more 20-20. Tied 22-22 late, a
Darian Stuckly kill helped propel the Lady Patriots to a 25-23 win with a Dolberry kill clinching the final point. DBU went up 2-0 in the match.
After jumping out to a 4-1 lead, the Lady Patriots watched the Rattlers score seven of the next nine points to take a 8-6 advantage. StMU extended their lead to 12-7, until DBU opened up a seven point run that included five kills from Manley to go up 14-12. Looking to take the bite out of the Rattlers, with the score tied 22-22 late in the third, the Lady Patriots scored the final three points ending the set with back to back kills by
Carly Hess, winning 25-22 and sweeping St. Mary's 3-0.
