The Patriots and Rattlers were tied for the last Heartland Conference tournament spot with nine points each heading into the match.
Ignacio Fernandez fueled the Rattlers' offense with an unassisted goal in the 28th minute and an assist on Victor Luna's 51st minute goal. St. Mary's outshot the Patriots 18-9 and 6-3 in shots on goal.

SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILSTexas A&M International enters Saturday's match on a three-game losing streak, most recently to No. 14 St. Edward's by a score of 2-0. The Dustdevils can clinch a spot in the Heartland Conference tournament with a win over DBU, a Newman loss and a St. Mary's loss.
The biggest threat to DBU are juniors Tayeb Ahmadi, who has four goals and five assists on the year, and Ryan Hodgson, who leads TAMUI with five goals scored.
