Volleyball Swept by Lubbock Christian

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist Volleyball Team were swept, 3-0 by the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps Saturday afternoon, dropping the Lady Patriots to fourth place in the Heartland Conference. DBU has loss four of their last five matches. Carly Hess had eight kills for the Lady Patriots, with Kaycie Bird dishing out 20 assists and Lauren Nicks turning in 16 digs.

DBU opened up the first set jumping out to a 3-0 lead, in which LCU responded scoring three straight points of their own to tie the set 3-3. The Lady Patriots went on another run putting up a trifecta of points to take a 6-3 lead. Things would turn in the set as the Lady Chaps scored seven of the next eight points to go ahead 10-7. Despite LCU's advantage, DBU remained close and positioned themselves in striking distance after a Brooke Manley kill left the Lady Patriots down by only one point trailing 17-16. The Lady Patriots only scored once more in the first set due to the Lady Chaps closing out the set with a 8-1 run, winning 25-17, going up 1-0 in the match.

The Lady Patriots had to play catch up in the early goings of the second set, but were able to take advantage of multiple point streaks so the set did not get out of hand. DBU put together four streaks of at least three points, that manifested into a 16-13 lead capped off by a Carly Hess service ace and eventually going up 20-17 taking advantage of LCU errors. With the Lady Patriots looking to close the set with a 24-21 lead, the Lady Chaps notched three straight scores to tie the set at 24 apiece. The two squads battled into extra points, with a kill by Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick pushing DBU ahead 27-26. The Lady Patriots weren't able to score again in the final moments of the set, due to the Lady Chaps sealing the final three points 29-27, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

LCU scored seven of the first ten points in the third set to gain a 7-3 advantage early on. The Lady Chaps kept their four point lead going up 9-5, before the Lady Patriots were able to make their move and go on a five point rally to take a 10-9 lead. DBU was able to hang onto their lead mid-set with a Madeline Dolberry kill keeping them in front 16-14. The Lady Chaps offense would ignite again scoring six straight points to create a 20-16 cushion against the Lady Patriots. LCU would then go on to score five of the next eight points to take the third set 25-19, sweeping DBU 3-0 for the match.
