DBU Claims Heartland Conference Tournament Title

THE LEAD
Dallas Baptist University won the Heartland Conference Tournament championship with a 2-1 win over St. Edward's in extra time on Sunday afternoon. In front of a record crowd of 537 at Patriot Soccer Field, senior forward Ashley Cox scored the game-winning goal with 7:07 remaining in the first extra time period.

The Hilltoppers took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute on an unassisted goal by Jennifer Boudreau. The Patriots tied the match in the 77th minute when Lindsey Eccles finished off a header from Emilie MacDonald to even the score.

DBU goalkeeper Jenna Ackerly made five saves in the match and was named the Heartland Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player. Each squad placed six shots on goal.

IN THE NUMBERS
2 - DBU claimed its second Heartland Conference Tournament title with the first coming in 2012.
