Long Range Shooting Fuels DBU's 96-78 Win

THE LEAD
Dallas Baptist University defeated Cameron University 96-78 on Wednesday night at the Burg Center. The Patriots shot a combined 19-for-32 from the three-point line. Senior guard Joey Miller led the team with 31 points and seven assists. Miller made seven three-pointers in the game. Joining Miller in double-digits was sophomore guard Amari Bryant with 13 points on four-for-five shooting. Sophomore forward Patrick Burke added 12 points for the Patriots, and senior guard Shannon Lilly put up 10 points.

DBU began the game shooting nine-for-13 from beyond the arc, accounting for 27 of the Patriots' first 38 points. DBU ended the half 10-for-16 from the perimeter, and the Patriots shot 57 percent from the field. The Patriots pulled away in the second half, increasing their lead to as high as 20 points. With the victory, DBU improves their season record to 4-2.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE PATRIOTS' HOT SHOOTING NIGHT
"We know this team is capable of scoring a lot of points and tonight was one of those nights.  I was really happy for Joey Miller and to see him get going.  He had a great game tonight shooting the basketball.  On the other side, I was really proud of the way we competed on the defensive end against a tough Cameron team."

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Both team's top scorers were held scoreless until there was 12:27 remaining in the second half, when DBU's Myles Johnson made a free throw. Johnson fouled out with six points, and Cameron's Cameron Lee scored 10 points in the final 10 minutes of the game.
 - The Patriots opened the second half only making one of four three-point attempts, but converted five straight after that to extend their lead to 74-59.
- Joey Miller's 31 points are the highest by a DBU player since Myles Johnson put up 35 against Oklahoma Christian last season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
0 - DBU's defense forced Cameron to shoot zero-for-eight from the three-point line in the second half.
18 - 18 of the Patriots' 23 rebounds were defensive rebounds.
5 - DBU has topped 90 points in five of its six games this season, averaging 91.8 points per game.
