Box Score THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist Men's Basketball Team would fall in overtime on "Senior Night" to the St. Mary's Rattlers 83-77. This would be the sixth overtime of the year for the Patriots where they are 3-3 in all games resulting in an extra period.
Senior
Wesley Gipson would lead DBU in scoring with 15 points. Other Patriots in doubles figures were
Franklin Uzonwanne and
Myles Johnson with 12 points each and
Tim Simmons and
Shannon Lilly with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
After a tightly contested first half that would see Dallas Baptist go into halftime behind St. Mary's 32-30, the close play between the Heartland Conference foes would remain the same in the following half.
Wesley Gipson would score 10 of his 15 in the first.
With :40 seconds left in regulation and the Rattlers up 70-66, despite being scoreless in the first half,
Shannon Lilly would sink a jumper that would bring the score to 70-68 in the final moments. A free throw by St. Mary's would put them up by three points, but DBU would respond with Lilly converting on an and-one lay up in the paint and sinking the free throw that followed. The squads would be headed to overtime tied at 71.
In OT the Rattler's Marvin Binney would come out and score the opening field goals of the extra period which would lead to StMU controlling overtime and ultimately winning the game. Binney would have a game high 22 points. Â
