No. 20 DBU Blanks Texas Southern, 15-0

THE LEAD
No. 20 Dallas Baptist used a nine run third inning and a solid start from sophomore, Trevor Conn, to win 15-0 over Texas Southern on Saturday at Horner Ballpark.  The win is the eighth straight for DBU (14-2) and gives the Patriots the series win over the Tigers.

The scoring parade began for DBU in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Daniel Salters.  After Trooper Reynolds made it 2-0 on a sacrifice fly to center, Tagg Duce laced a two-run single into the gap to open the Patriot lead to 4-0.  Following RBI's from Chane Lynch and Nash Knight, a run-scoring single by Drew Turbin ended the day for Texas Southern (8-10) starter, Robert Pearson.

With Ryan Rios on the hill for the Tigers, a throwing error on a pick-off attempt at first base allowed both Camden Duzenack and Turbin to score to make it 9-0.

On the mound for DBU, Trevor Conn cruised through six scoreless innings before handing the game over to freshman, Eric White.  In six innings of work, Conn allowed just six hits and struck out three.

The Patriots added two more runs in their half of the sixth on a David Martinelli towering blast over the right field wall.  The home run was Martinelli's team-leading fourth of the season.

DBU would tack on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth, as both Trevin Sonnier and Justin Wall were each hit by pitches with the bases loaded, before Matt Duce drove in two runs on a single to right-center.

Freshman relievers, Eric White and Seth Elledge combined to finish out the game throwing three scoreless innings.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION OF 1-9 IN THE ORDER
"I liked our approach at the plate today and it wasn't just in the nine-run third inning that we had that approach.  Our guys did a good job of being aggressive at the plate, getting a good pitch to hit, and they competed that way the entire day."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
8 – DBU's eighth win matches their longest win streak since the Patriots won eight straight in 2014.
9 – The last time DBU won nine straight came during the 2009 season.
11 – Nash Knight extended his hitting streak to match a career-high 11 games.  He also had an 11 game hit streak in 2013.
