Patriots' Streak Reaches 10 With Win Over UTA

THE LEAD
No. 18 Dallas Baptist extended their win streak to 10 games with a 9-3 win over UT-Arlington on Wednesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington, Texas.  Leading 3-2 going into the sixth inning, the Patriots would outscore UTA 6-1 over the final four innings and receive solid contributions from Chance Adams and Sean Stutzman out of the bullpen to hold on for their tenth straight win.  The victory gives DBU (16-2) the program's third longest winning streak since the Patriots joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 2004.

Three Patriots recorded multi-hit nights, led by David Martinelli and Justin Wall's three hits apiece.  Nash Knight also had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-4 and extending his hitting streak to a career-high 13 games.

DBU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Drew Turbin led the game off with a triple to the right-center field gap and came home to score on a two-out double by Wall.  After Patriots' starter, Jay Calhoun, allowed a UTA (10-8) run in the second inning, DBU retook the lead in the fourth, as Martinelli knocked in a run on an RBI single and Knight drew a bases loaded walk.

With the Patriots holding onto a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, Knight ripped a base hit to right field that brought home Tagg Duce.  Looking to add to a two-run lead, Camden Duzenack kept the inning alive as he reached on a fielding error by UTA pitcher, Zach Hobbs, allowing Trooper Reynolds to score from third.

Following a run by the Mavericks in the sixth, DBU plated a run on a safety squeeze bunt by Tagg Duce.  With a 6-3 lead, the Patriots' Trooper Reynolds opened the game up with a two-run blast over the left field wall.  The home run is the fourth of the year for Reynolds and ties him with David Martinelli for the team lead.

An RBI triple by Martinelli in the eighth added one more insurance run to put DBU up 9-3.  Combined with the offensive fireworks, the Patriots received solid relief outings from both Chance Adams and Sean Stutzman.  Adams worked two scoreless innings and struck out four, while Stutzman earned his first save of the year, tossing three shutout innings.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE JOB OF THE BULLPEN
"Chance Adams and Sean Stutzman were both really good tonight.  Chance came out and pounded the strike zone and gave us a big lift being able to work out of a jam in the sixth with a couple of runners in scoring position.  Sean was also very sharp out of the pen with the three innings he worked.  The job that they did tonight allowed us to save Drew Smith and Brandon Koch's arms for the weekend as well."
