Patriots Pounce on Evansville Early in 10-2 Win

THE LEAD
No. 18 Dallas Baptist won for the twelfth straight time with a 10-2 win over Evansville on Saturday at Charles Braun Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.  The victory matches a program record for the most consecutive wins by DBU (18-2) since the program joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 2004.  The last time the Patriots won 12 straight came during the 2004 season (April 2-20).

A four-hit day from Justin Wall helped pace DBU's offensive attack.  After back-to-back walks to Drew Turbin and Camden Duzenack to open the game, Wall sent a three-run blast over the wall in left-centerfield to put the Patriots on top 3-0.

In the second inning, DBU added four more runs, starting with an RBI single by Camden Duzenack.  A double by Wall to left-center added another run, before Daniel Salters laced a two-run single to right, making it 7-0 DBU.

Patriot starter, Cory Taylor, allowed his only run to Evansville (8-10) in the third on a double off the bat Jonathan Ramon that scored Shain Showers.  Taylor would go on to work out of a bases loaded jam by striking out Billy Lipari.  The strikeout would be one of a season-high eight for Taylor on the afternoon.

Up 7-1 in the fourth inning, DBU added runs in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, including a towering home run to right from David Martinelli.  The solo shot by Martinelli in the sixth was his fifth of the year and ties him for the team lead with Trooper Reynolds.

After Taylor left the game with five solid innings on the mound, Jay Calhoun kept the Purple Aces scoreless in his two innings of relief, before Evansville struck for their only other run in the eighth.

With today's win, the Patriots are now one victory shy of setting a new single-season record for the most consecutive wins in the program's Division I history.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE OFFENSIVE ATTACK IN THE EARLY INNINGS
"We've been really good in the middle to late innings of the game, but when we have opportunities early, we want to take advantage of those.  It's a huge advantage in college baseball and the numbers show that the team that scores first wins the vast majority of the time.  For us today, it started with Drew and Camden walking to start the game and then Justin Wall did what a good hitter does that hits third in the lineup and gets a good pitch to hit."

JUSTIN WALL ON THE TEAM'S CURRENT WIN STREAK AND THEIR PLAY THIS YEAR
"Everybody that's been here as long as I have, we've all learned from the guys that came before us.  We have a blue collar mentality and we love to show up and play everyday.  I think we have the mental toughness and the drive on this team to come out every day and not take at-bats off, or innings off, but to come out and attack.  When you combine that kind of mentality with the ability of the guys on this team, hopefully we can keep this thing rolling."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
6 – Extra base hits by DBU today.
4 – Stolen bases swiped by the Patriots.
