Win Streak Snapped at 12 in Loss to Evansville

THE LEAD
No. 18 Dallas Baptist saw their 12-game win streak come to a close with a 3-1 loss to Evansville at Charles Braun Stadium in Evansville, Indiana, on Sunday afternoon.  Scoreless into the bottom of the fifth, a three-run inning for the Purple Aces would be all they would need to hold off DBU (18-3, 2-1), as freshman left-hander, Brodie Harkness, held the Patriots to just one run over eight innings.

Harkness would keep the Patriots hitless until Nash Knight reached on an infield single in the third.  On a day in which Harkness kep the DBU lineup off-balance, Knigh's hit would be one of only four on the afternoon for the Patriot offense.

Opposite of Harkness, DBU's Trevor Conn held Evansville (9-10, 1-2) scoreless into the fifth inning before a two-out triple by Kevin Kazmarski plated the game's first two runs.  With two outs and a runner at third, Kaczmaski came home to score on a balk called on Conn to make it 3-0 Evansville.

At the plate, DBU was not able to push a runner into scoring position against Evansville's Harkness until the eighth inning.  A fly ball to shallow right off the bat of Daniel Satlers went in and out of the glove of Jarod Perry in right, putting Salters on second.  After a sacrifice bunt by Knight put Salters at third, pinch-hitter, Trooper Reynolds, flied out to deep center, allowing the Patriots' first run to score.

Down 3-1 in the ninth, the Patriots were retired in order by Evansville reliever, Brent Jurceka.  The loss snaps DBU's 12-game win streak, which ties the club with the 2004 team for the longest win streak in the program's NCAA Division I history.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON FACING BRODIE HARKNESS TODAY
"He did an outstanding job on the mound for them.  He had a good three-pitch mix that just kept us off balance all day.  In the game of baseball, you're going to have those things happen sometimes and today we didn't put good at-bats against him."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
16 – Nash Knight extended his hitting streak to a career-high 16 games.
3 – The Patriots' Chance Adams and Drew Smith came out of the pen to throw three shutout innings.
1 – Kevin Kaczmarski's triple was the only extra-base hit today.

UP NEXT FOR THE PATRIOTS
DBU concludes a four-game road trip on Tuesday night at Abilene Christian.  First pitch is scheduled for the 6:30 pm.
