THE LEADAfter going seven innings without a run or a base hit, Dallas Baptist broke up a no-hit bid by Oral Roberts starter, Xavier Altamirano, and scored four runs to claim a 4-2 win and complete a four game sweep of the Golden Eagles on Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A double by
Trooper Reynolds, who finished the weekend series with 11 RBI's, broke up a 2-2 tie in the eighth, while freshman,
Gavin Fritz, tossed two-and-two-third innings of scoreless relief to earn the first win of his career.Â
With the victory, DBU (10-2) improves to 7-2 on the road this year and completes their second sweep or Oral Roberts in Tulsa in the last three years.
Â
Making the first start of his collegiate career, Patriot starter,
Trevor Conn, allowed just one run over five innings. The sophomore righty also struck out a career-high five and scattered five hits, while walking three.Â
After Conn made his exit before the start of the sixth inning, ORU (6-7) tacked on another run when Emmanuel Forcier singled to left to drive in Audie Afenir, making it 2-0 Golden Eagles.
Â
Down two runs in the top of the eighth and still looking for their first hit of the day,
Nash Knight ripped a single through the right side to break up the no-hiitter and put the tying run at the plate.Â
Â
Following Knight's single, Altamirano was pulled for ORU closer, Tyler Stout. Facing
Drew Turbin, Stout walked the first man he faced to put the tying run on base. A sacrifice bunt by
Camden Duzenack put the tying runner in scoring postion, as
Justin Wall came to the plate with one out. On a 2-2 count, Wall hit a ground ball deep in the hole to shortstop Nick Roark who's throw skipped past first baseman, Anthony Sequiera, allowing two runs to score and putting Wall on second.
Â
Trooper Reynolds would be next and the junior designated hitter, who had already knocked in 10 runs over the weekend against the Golden Eagles, would deliver once again. This time, a shot over the outstretched glove of Noah Cummings in left plated Wall, as Reynolds cruised into second with a double and gave DBU their first lead of the game.Â
Â
Following a walk to
Daniel Salters, a Tugg Duce single back up the middle plated Reynolds and gave the Patriots a 4-2 advantage.
Â
Without the services of closer,
Brandon Koch, who threw 44 pitches in Saturday's win, DBU turned to
Gavin Fritz to close out the Golden Eagles. In the ninth, Fritz worked around a two-out single to get pinch-hitter, Matt Whatley, to pop out in foul territory and hand the Patriots a four game sweep.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE HIT BY KNIGHT IN THE 8TH THAT STARTED THE FOUR RUN RALLY"There was a belief the whole time in the dugout that we were going to come back and make something happen and once again Nash was the guy that broke it open and his hit gave everybody confidence that we were going to find a way to win."
DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE PERFORMANCE OF GAVIN FRITZ & DALTON HIGGINS OUT OF THE PEN"The thing I like about Gavin is that he's confident and has a good presence on the mound. I thought his tempo today was good as well. I also thought
Dalton Higgins did a good job. He gave up a couple of hits, but he came out and pounded the strike zone and I thought his tempo and presence was really good as well."
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS4 – DBU turned four double plays today, with all coming to end an inning.
